Variator restrictor question (pic)

Post by Motorcity »

I just want to make sure I have it all right before I put it back together. I removed the pulley and removed the plate thats held on with the 7mm screws. I've read all the tech documents but just to clarify before I put it all together. I remove the plate and screws, I'd imagine that I remove the O-ring as well. then I just put it all back together (without the plate, O-ring and screws). The variator is greased, won't the grease sling around inside of the case maybe contaminating the belt?

looks like you have the same non-restricted variator as me, can't do anything with it, someone mentioned a different ramp. Or get the high speed pulley kit from vtcycles (in stock).

that one is not restricted.
It is pointless to remove anything. But so you know, the ring to the right is what is restricted on some bikes. But not on your.

Remove the grease. it will improve your mid range.
Honda put it in there so it will get to speed slower.

http://www.scootertherapy.com/Eliteclutchpage.html What a restriction plate looks like. Like Dac said, clean the grease out, maybe leave a THIN coat on the moving part contact surfaces but thats all.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Thanks for the replies, it didn't look right to me thats why I was second guessing it. I will call VTcycles tomorrow about a high speed pulley.

Keoni told me the grease will make the rollers last longer and doesn't affect the speed. I say lightly grease them..too much would probably slow it down
Honda Elite SA50-S

Stock motor, 9:1 gears, Kelli High speed pulley=a top speed of ?? Maxed the speedo out if that counts..average 45 mph

Correct, does not affect speed or acceleration only prolongs roller life. Come on Dac gotta know the facts first

Roller inertial force >> grease damping resistance
projects galore :nerd:
