Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

All right, I just joined the forum about five minutes ago. I bought my Spree from this older guy who was raiding some parts off of it. I stripped it down and put new rings, oil seals, crank bearings, and gaskets on it. I have worked on several Yamaha Razz mopeds before, so I am familiar with the setup on these devils. Anyway, I tried to start my Spree today. After cranking on it for awhile and playing with the screws, I got it to run. The problem is that it won't idle. When I turn the throttle stop screw to get it to idle, it dies. Also...I rode it for about five minutes. I don't have much control over it with the throttle. It wants to approach about 20mph. I can get it to go faster with the throttle, but it won't slow down otherwise without the brakes. I'm know it has an idle problem. When I was cleaning my carburetor, I couldn't get anything through what I think is the idle jet. It is almost like the passage is blocked with metal and it was never meant to be open. Am I supposed to get cleaner or air or anything through the idle jet?

Sounds from your other post that you need to get the choke squared away before addressing other potential problems. I will tell you that the idle jet must be visibly clean. In previous posts I explained how I check this jet. If it is not clear, (and all other aspects of the carb are correct) your Spree will not idle. I did in fact have an obstruction in the jet which I was not able to remove and had to purchase a used carb body.
