I was going to pull my starter (on a 1989 Elite SB50P) to test it, but then I thought about all those gears inside the crankcase and got a little spooked.

Is there a trick to pulling the starter motor, or do I just unbolt it and pull it straight out?

There are 2 gears, 1 on starter 1 on engine.

you can just pull it out with out removing on on engine
