Fouled Plug?

Ok so when it comes to engines and stuff...I am a complete n00b.

I bought my bike (94 SR Elite 50) about 2 weeks ago and it was running really sweet...up until my wife dumped it in the driveway.

She broke quite a bit of the plastics and stuff...not that big a deal...was able to repair most everything with some JB Weld, and I am going to paint it in the next week or so.

Anyways, I started it for the first time in a week since she dumped it cause I had taken all the plastics off to repair them and it is not sounding as nice as it used to.

It has a "spluttering" to it when idle and sounds as if it is going to die but doesnt.

I talked to a buddy of mine and he suggested I clean the Carb. which I will do this weekend, and he also said that check for a fouled plug.

Sorry for being a n00b...but what the chunk does that mean? Do I need to replace the spark plug?

If you could give me a bit more info on this ... I would be most welcome.

When it was dumped the engine may have been loaded up with the oil injected into the carb to lube the engine. In the process of burning it off the spark plug could have been coated with oil residue. Also crud in the float bowl may have been stired up and gotten sucked into one of the tiny passages in the carb. These are tiny carbs and some of the passages are really, really small. It doesn't take much to clog one up.

The dump didn't break the air box by chance did it? Sounds like it could be getting too much or not enough air to me. Make sure all the connections around the carb, air box, and intake are snugg. Also, check for cracks anywhere while you're there.

Clean the carb and replace the plug.
