94+ SA50 Elite Headlight Questions

I have a couple of questions about my headlight.

First off my headlight points way up when I am riding, its like I am looking for raccoons in the tree's or something. I know their are adjusters under the light but do they change the direction it points up or down or is it only an adjustment for side to side?

I need to know what I have to do to get it to point lower to the ground.

Also, what kind of bulb does it take? Only my high beam works and it would be nice to have them both.

Thanks in advance, Rob

IF you look underneath the headlight on the plastic there should be two holes with a screws towards the inside of the hole..adjust both the left + right screws to raise/lower the height of the light from the headlight..just turn each screw the same amount so the beam stays even

To elaborate a bit... screwing the adjuster screws in (clockwise) should lower the beam. As stated, use an even number of turns per side.

Now for the bad news... the headlight is a sealed unit, which means that you have to replace the whole headlight, not just a simple bulb. I just did this on my 94' SA50.

Expect to pay between $40.00 and $50.00 for the headlight - Ouch!

If you decide to replace it, you'll need to remove the headlight along with the adjustment mechanism. Not a tough job, but it would be a lot easier if they had used a replaceable bulb.

Thanks for the reply. A couple of nights ago I screwed the adjuster screws all the way in but it didnt seem to change anything. I thought maybe I went the wrong way with them.

I was hoping it was not a sealed beam. I guess I would like to change it though as a low beam would be nice. Right now I blind anybody who is in front of me at a stop light.

OH BUT WAIT!!!! They do make a h4 conversion headlamp!!!! I got mine from VT cycles. When it was sent to me it was a oem honda part. Don't take me word for it...but I think it might be the headlamp for the 2001 honda elite.

Yes - there was a recent thread on using a 2001 replaceable bulb headlight for earlier cycles

http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB2/viewto ... light+2001

But also check your headlight circuit out with a multimeter. I've seen headlight problems due to the switch rather than bulb.

Nice thread, its just what I was looking for. Thanks.

I am pretty sure its not the switch, I will take my Fluke to it one of these days though.

High beam would be ok with me but it needs to be aimed down more, I havent really looked into why its pointing up so high, perhaps my 280 pound * is too much for her.

You can buy a stiffer adjustable shock for it.

Double Doh!!! Ishould have tried to find a suitable substitute for mine as well. Oh well... the first headlight lasted at least 10 years :)

Kenny - How about a link on that adjustable shock. I'm a 280 lb Elite rider too!!

Look for E-bay store "DAYWOT" for the gas shock.
