So yes, the top end has seized. The cylinder is visibly marked, I can see streaks of bright coloured metal.

When I run my fingernail along inside, I can feel my fingernail catch on the marks, they are not really deep scratches but I can definitely feel them. Do I need to get this bored out, or will it be alright the way it is?

I broke one of the rings when I got it off the piston so I will need to get more rings anyway. Do these generally come with a piston kit?

Sorry about the really dumb questions but I have no experience with this stuff! Thanks everyone for your help.

Dint think there is a piston kit you buy the parts sperate as you need them (dont reuse clips). pics?

You can probably hone it out and use standard parts.

I'm not sure I want to go spending time and money on something that might not work, considering I have already spent $570 on it. I don't know how much honing the cylinder will cost but the piston kit will cost over $100.

Does anybody know if honing the cylinder out and putting in a new piston and rings would actually fix this problem?

Yes, probably.

The only way to tell for sure is to start honing it and see how much metal you have to remove to smooth out the bore. I'm guessing you don't have the gear to do this.

From the photos it looks like things got scored pretty badly. Without having the parts in my hand to make a more educated guess, I'd say you'd probably be money ahead to toss the jug and piston and get new (or good used) ones.

Are you in new zealand? if not remember to account for that, the price is roughly 75 USD

In my opinion you will need to bore the cylinder out or get a different good one. Yes you will need a new piston, rings, and clips.

Well if you cant bore/hone it yourself i guess you best off buying overbore parts and getting it bored.
