Anyone know the correct mixture to run in a 84 Spree. My oil pump is disabled and I plan on mixing rather than throwing more money at it.
Thanks

just so you know you have to take off the pump and get the gears ground off, simpllly capping off the lines is not enough.

50:1 should be good.
some people might say 40:1 but on a stock spree i think that 50:1 is plenty of oil.

Why not? Just let the pump run, but not pumping anything. Or if you are real fussy, loop an oil line from the input to the output and just recirculate the oil.

the second thing is something i did on one of my old engines.

if you let it pump nothing for a long time you will have problems. dry metal on dry metal rubbing together as fast as the crank shaft spins, it will overtime start to cause heat, shredding the pump, putting metal shavings onto your crank shaft, or just locking up. No matter what happens the crank shaft could get damaged, and if that happens your looking at a complete motor rebuilt.

Stock is 50:1, I would recommend 40:1, 32 id your hard on it or over 200lbs, just do a plug chop afterwords to make sure it isnt leaning out.

When switching to premix the oil takes away slightly from how much fuel the carb flows leaning out the motor.

I'll buy that. How about a closed loop for the pump to recycle the oil has that been tried?

Thanks. I'll try the closed loop idea and see what it does. It's just used at races to haul me around between heats.

yeah i did it for a while, the loop seems to work, you just have to kinda check it every 500 miles or so. Its just a HUGE pain to get a line that fits both the in oil spot, and the out oil spot.

your nuts!

stock is less then 50:1, i have heard on the sprees its almost more like 75:1.
So i say 50:1 if your bike is stock.
and if you are more then 200lbs, and ride WOT everywhere, then 40:1.

i would never recommend 32:1 on a stock bike. thats just nuts.

75:1? thats whats nuts! You can NEVER run TOO much oil, only too little.

you can to run to much oil!

you run to much oil and you will run so rich that your bike will start messing up.
running to much oil and its possible to even run lean. We discussed this in a previous topic.

Well, I used to run 25 to 1 in my 2 strike motors because that's what the factory spec. was, I still own 3 of those engines and run them too. I've run 18 to one in my 8200 rpm race motor and never ever had an issue. Doesn't the Spree motor run about 8000 rpm?
