winterize

is there a general checklist i could follow to winterize a spree? i would figure from reading for info that studded tires are available, the spark plug i would figure have to change, quick question would i winterize this thing the same way i'd wintertune my chainsaw?

A winterize list goes something like this.

Fuel stabilizer into the tank.

Change gear oil (Why because it is cheap and if it is well used oil can create acids.)

Get a spray can of fogging oil. (Most any marine store will have it.)

Pull air cleaner box top and filter. Clean filter. Do not reinstall now.

Run engine for 15 minutes to make sure you have stabilized gas clear thru the fuel system.

Run the revs up and spray fogging oil in to carb inlet, short squirts until engine starts to smoke badly. Now squirt heavy flow until engine dies. Reinstall air filter and top.

Roll scoot into storage location.

Change plug in spring after start up.

Fogging oil will last for years.

Others can add or disagree as they see fit.

all very good info bear, but just to clarify: did you mean you're storing for winter or want to ride during winter?

My check list is for winter storage. It rins here to much to ride in the winter. Besides I'm too old to get that cold anymore, well except to hunt.

Winter riding is for crazies and scooter freaks, all of who are young and dumb by definition.

DOOD! I'm, driving all winter no matter how cold it gets, I'll just put on a thicker coat. The ONLY time I'm not driving is if it's too cold to start

Nearly impossible with a 2 stroke motor tuned correctly.

I've driven a NON tuned 2 stroke dirt bike in winter before. The only thing i'm worried about is slipping on ice

just do what I did and attach a flame thrower to the from forks, with a trigger right behind your back brake level so you can pull it and melt ice before you get to it.

IDK how im nuts, I said you can get a 2 stroke running no matter the weather if its tuned up right. No oil in the crank to turn into thick grease.

Nope, I have started 2 stroke motors in -20* weather, just gotta have that magic touch. Try that with a 4 stroke full of 30 weight, if you can get it to spin over you might have a chance.
