1987 SE50P, will this make it go 30?

So I used to have a 1987 SE50P, but I sold it to a friend of mine mostly because it was just too slow, only 27mph. Now that I found this website I wish I hadn't sold it. Anyway, I still see it a lot and I would like to help my friend out by taking some things I have learned from this site and make the Elite go a little faster. First off my friend is a cheap *, I mean REALLY cheap, to the point it can * a guy off, so I plan to do only cheap mods. Here is the plan...

I plan to first take off this plate from the variator that I have been reading about. Then I'm going to check out his rollers, maybe convince him to get some lighter ones. The last thing I plan to do depends on what the drive face looks like. On my Ruckus there is a slight lip where it comes in contact with the drive boss. Over at totalruckus some people have been shaving this down to allow the variator and drive face to get a little closer together on the top end, thus letting the belt ride a little higher and increasing top end. The only trick is to put a washer of the same thickness that you took off the lip behind the variator when you reassemble. I plan to do this to both my Ruckus and my friends Elite, only problem is I have not seen any pictures of the drive face on here so I don't know if it has this lip that the Ruckus has.

I hope that after all this is done he will see 30 mph maybe 35, but I do not know for sure. Can anyone tell me if this sounds like a good plan?

Change ramp plate and muffler. It needs a different ramp plate in the variator (Daywot on Ebay sells them for $10), removing that plate on back of variator won't help. Ramp plate is restricted. Do not have your friend get the Keli variator off Ebay from Daywot because you have to use your own ramp plate which is restricted. Hope that made sense. The muffler is resricted too. Get se50 muffler. These 2 things should hit 35 mph. My se50p hits 45-48.

And I think if you grind anything off pulley area will result in slower take off, I don't recommend. Start with ramp plate and muffler and go from there.

Restricted ramp and muffler =25mph. unrestricted muffler and restricted ramp plate =35 mph. unrestricted muffler and unrestricted ramp plate =from 40-45 on average.

Hey thanks. This all helps, and I've seen that link before it├óÔé¼Ôäós a good one. I'm thinking some lighter weights would compensate for any low end loss if I do shave off any metal. Getting a new muffler seems like it could be a real pain, but I will keep my eyes open. One scenario you didn't cover is new unrestricted ramp plate with restricted muffler, what speed could that get?

Just got done checking Daywot, and I couldn't find just a ramp plate. Got any other sources?

Sorry, didn't try the unrestricted ramp plate with restricted muffler. Go to Ebay and find "Daywot" and click the ask seller a question link or contact seller link. He told me recently that he has ramp plates for $10.

Another shot with my boy, he's about 5 inches in diameter but in the pic he's "scrunched up". But no lip. Sprees have lips.

d***, no lip. Good pics, thanks. I noticed that the plate that is held on with three screws is slightly different on th SE50P, If I change the ramp plate will this be a problem, or can I just throw this plate away?

apply light coat of white lithium grease and leave plate off. You don't want the grease flinging all over everything so keep it light. I'm not sure if the plate effects anything, you could probably test it yourself and see?

I'm gonna get a new variator for my ruckus, thinking I might give the old one to the friend i sold the elite to. Any chance it will fit?
