hey iam new here as well and actually jsut bought the same scooter a 1985 nb 50, i seen your website and was just wondering what parts you put into the motor i just want this thing to go fast, and also were about did you get the parts

-Awesome to have someone around who knows what's up... i may need to chat w' you for some parts advice on my current AF16e engine build for my Aero...

-so far, i have bought all new OEM Honda parts for the build; cases, misc. hardware, stator, shrouds, starter, Honda Metropolitan wheels (for tubeless tires), and rear clutch parts for a strong foundation.

For performance, i currently have a 28mm KOSO carb, YMS V8 "Typhoon" exhaust, KOSO Variator, Malossi racing gearset, Polini belt, SAVA full-slick tubeless tires, oil plug, etc.

i have NOT decided on what Mini Stroker kit or top-end setup to go with yet.
-i want to go "mini" stroker only; not full stroker for reliability.

Hopefully i will chat w' ya soon on the topic of mini-stroker kits.

Oh, and sorry about the picture posting issues; i will try to get that worked out in the near future; i guess i "didn't get that memo..."

i forgot to ask ya Dac, where would i go about finding a rear transmission cover like the one you are running on your motor?
-i thought i had read you had got it from VT; but i can't seem to find any details on their site. -Freaking sweet part indeed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i was able to pick mine up used for another forum. Allot of the moped shops in hawaii use to have them but as far as i know they are starting to become rare.
(keep in mind it is a Mod for 94-01 elites. with the split trans cover)

I have seen people cutting there own clutch covers, then doing then...

use paint remover,sand with 240 grit sand paper to get the rest of th black paint off that the paint remover didn't get off.Then wet sand with 400 grit to get the scratches out,then wet sand with 1000 grit to polish out the smaller scratches than hand polish with mothers.

Hi, just found this awesome board. You guys have real class.

I've got an 86 Aero with a baked engine (paid $45 for the whole bike).
So I plan to build the bike.
Seems to me that the first two steps are the hardest: figuring out what to do and finding the parts.
I'm a low budget hack compared to you guys but I've read all your excellent stuff (best I've found on the web).
So, I'm homering in on what I want to do but it's a ton of work to find the parts.

When you guys mention KOSO, Malossi, this and Polini that I'm beginning to know what you mean but would please tell me where you actually bought the parts?

...OEM Honda parts... for a strong foundation.

and I'm going to drop my crankcase off at my local Honda dealer and have them do the bottom end (replace crank bearings, bottom rod bearing and end seals).
Stroker is one or two projects down the road for me.

I bought an iron big bore kit (65cc) and variator from VT.
I'm still trying to figure out the carb, reeds, clutch, belt, and shock.
I think I want to keep the stock exhaust and gearing for now.
When I do get an exhaust, I want good pull over the whole RPM range not a tuned pipe.

Malossi has an awesome on-line store so you can see what they have but they don't sell or ship to the US (anyone got a friend in France, Belgium or Luxemburg).

I'm good with ignition and all electronic/electrical (if you need it) but I could really use some help with the engine and tranny.

Can you really use

...Honda Metropolitan wheels (for tubeless tires)...

on an Aero? Do you have to mod them somehow?

Awesome score on the $45 Aero, dude... that's a freaking steal, even with a toasted motor!

Yep - OEM Honda stuff all the way.
Honda uses the best bearings (usually NTN), seals, hardware, etc. i have seen a ton of knock-off scooters that are a very close clone of a Honda, however the mfg'er cuts costs and uses cheap bearings etc.
Any time i do any kind of engine rebuild or mod-project, both 2 and 4 stroke, i replace bearings while the cases are split. Its peace of mind, and you will know what kind of oil has been used, how the bike has been run... etc.

As for the Metropolitan wheels, yes sir, they are a direct fit. ** i have the OEM Honda Metropolitan wheels on my Aero 50 right now. There aren't any mods needed, except the scooter will sit up a little higher due to the tires being 90-90-10's. i had to add "risers" to my stock Aero centerstand to accomodate the scooter being higher. Other than that, they fit perfect. ** i am simply NOT a fan of "toobies" ** i am actually running SAVA full-slicks on my Metro wheels, and they work great. i just cant get caught in the rain... hahaha!

i get all my parts directly from a friend in Hawaii, who is evidently pretty well known around here. look him up on Ebay under seller name "daywot." The MAIN thing to remember? Making sure all your parts and mods work *together.* -consider what you will be doing in the long run with your build, and what kind of speed and power you want to make. -daywot can help you out... he def. knows his sh*t.

Check out DIOSPEEDDEMON's stuff... his stuff speaks for itself.

So, I only need my scoot to go 45 to be the fastest in my town (small town).
It would be so cool if it could wheelie (just once in a while).
I'm going to street fighter it and strip off as much weight as possible. Except I have to have a crate on the back.
Otherwise its lean and mean.
Can I make 45 without gearing it up?
Am I going to have to get an exhaust?
Carb?
Fancy reeds?
Fancy belt?
Harder spring on back pulley?

I do have the adjustable oil pump (86 model) so, can I get away with not adding extra oil to the gas?

I'll get some pics up of what I'm starting with.

I got my iron big bore from VT in the mail. It looks right on the outside. I haven't taken the old cylinder off yet to see if it matches up. I fear that if I had the old one off I'd be too temped to throw on the new one and ride.

im one of the "noobs" too - so screw it; we will tag team and go thread killing on our Aeros.

Here's my take on what ya might need to do to make it to your goal of 45 and wheelie:

Getting 45mph wont be too much of a problem if you do a bore kit, like the 65cc Metrakit i have on my 1985 Aero engine, however you will need to add a carb kit (prob 18-20mm) and an exhaust (like the Proma "Podium" if you can still find one. Check VT to see if they have one still lying around)

DIOSpeedDemon gave me some great advice on "over-modifying..."
in my opinion, if there is a "god" in the scooter world, its him; but using the label "god" just wouldn't be right in his case... he's a "saint" for all the time he puts into his tutorials, but im guessing he may go under the alias of "satan" to most peoples.

Do the 65cc bore kit, carb, exhaust, and a variator, but leave your "rear" driveline (rear clutch, driven-face, spring and transmission gears) alone. A 65cc kit will not have enough power and torque to pull your scoot around or give you the takeoff you are looking for if you re-gear your transmission w' race gears.

You prob won't have any luck finding carbon reeds; i tried for quite some time but never scored any. Malossi makes a set for the Honda "Lead" 50 (pronounced "leed") ...BUT, i was looking for a set for the '85 Aero 50; the '86 and '87 Aero uses different, larger petal reeds which you may be able to find. Try to go to Boyesen's site; they make the "Rad" valve for dirtbikes... they may make custom - application reeds if you send them your factory metal ones. i don't know though for sure.

If you have the extra cash, a kevlar belt would be added security against slipping, which i would recommend. Hit up "daywot" on ebay. He can help you get anything you need.

i decided to part out my '85 Aero engine - im selling my 65cc kit, pipe, carb kit, and trans gears. let me know if you are interested in any of my parts.
