YAMAHAS ON THIS FORUM...please read

Ok, I am finalizing my purchase of a '98 Jog tonight. Several others have purchased them lately, and some others are discussing them.
Now, some are quick to point out, "this is a honda forum". But, I have got to say...
Who cares!
In fact, I think there should be a Yamaha forum on Hondaspree.net. Why, do you ask, when there is already a Yamaha forum? Because this forum encompasses a rather unique little community of scooterists. In my opinion, the Yamaha forum sucks it. This one is great, and I come here because I know so many people dig on older japanese scoots, and have real practical advice, answers, humor, etc. Frankly, I am settling on a Yamaha, but *this* is the forum community I wish to continue to be a part of.
What do you all think?

I'm not really in any position to decide what kinda bikes can be discussed here but I agree that this is one of the cleanest scooter forums out there! The spree forum is visually appealing and easy to read unlike other sites.
My first "no ped" was a baby blue 80's Yamahopper qt50 and I loved that thing. Same concept as a scooter but with a skeleton moped frame.
I wouldnt mind reading the banter about Jogs, Razz's, and Yamahoppers at all. Mopeds too! ^^

im thinking something alittle different...
i dont want to mix the hole site into yamahas, that just kills the honda community, BUT i totally agree with what you are saying about this site being a better community.
what i think could be done is to add a yamaha category. something like...

The site was made from the love a sprees. Why kill that? instead we could just add a yamaha spot. for all the yamaha discussion.
Sadly, i have seen more and more people getting jogs. And im seeing a few jog topics that i really would not like to see on the site, but i totally understand why people are posting them.
that is kinda the point of "General Chit-Chat" though. I dont know, ill contact noiseguy with a link to this topic and see what he says.

I'm for it, as I almost got into 3 different Jogs before my SR score, and kept looking here for any info, as everything else I found paled in comparison.
But how would it be done? Just another general "non-Honda Scooter" forum?
Plenty of us have non-Hondas. I have a Yamaha QT50 still.

Well, that's what I meant...a Yamaha section would be cool.
But, let's face it...everyone here is cooler than on other forums. I don't like the other forums. I like this one.
I don't want to kill the Honda community...and in fact, keep it Hondaspree.net. But, at the same time, I feel like this has become a bit of a general scooter forum as well...free of vespa snobbism, etc.
And luckily, it's not overrun by people who are trying to turn their scoots into overpowered performance machines...it's just a nice mix of all sorts of scooter interests.

Nice job Dac, that was what I was picturing it to be like! I love the fact this site is strictly Hondas!

There's a Zuma/Vino forum already... where's the shortfall in coverage? With the older Jog scooter and others (I'm not really up on Yamaha scoots) or is it something else? User/knowledge base?
Also, I'm starting to notice more posts here on Honda 80/150/250 scoots. I've thought about adding those, but really 2-strokes are more similar to each other than Honda scoots in 2 and 4 stroke.
I made a conscious decision not to spend time on Express's either... there's the expresslymopeds forum for those, as well as good coverage in mopedarmy. We have the manuals here and spend some time on them, but not as much as those sites.
Thoughts?

I don't think it's a shortfall in coverage. But...well, that forum is really boring. This one is a bit more amusing, and seems to have a community of people who dig on scooters in general. The Yamaha forum has a lot of people who go there only for technical info.
This forum has people who seem to genuinely appreciate discovering scooters, finding bargains...I dunno...it's almost as if this community is more appreciative, period.
I go to Modernbuddy.com sometimes for the same reasons. Though some of those people are a bit *too* loyal to their brand, they all seem to have fun talking about scooters in general, and everything that comes with it.

well, i have seen owners of sprees help out people with 4 strokes. I have seen people with elites help out people with expresses. I find this site has a great community with great people who help out just about anyone. I mean, whether you planned for it or not, this site is already based for all honda scooters. there is people here with only 4 stroke scooters and they fit in just fine.
I do agree there is other sites that are based on only yamahas, but i think it would be a good idea just to add a Yamaha section on the site. It just builds the community up more, and brings more people to the site.
Im not saying change everything, im not saying make a new site, im talking about just adding another category.
So far no one is against it.

I dont know if I agree or not with needing a Yamaha section here or not. But what I can say is this:
I recently bought a 98 Jog for my soon to be wife so she can ride with me. I am in need of a few parts for it and I have looked all over for parts for them and most of the forums suck.
There are some that are ok but they are just not this place, yanno.....
I see a few of the guys that hang out here in at some of the other sites that have Yamaha sections, so its true that some of us go other places to find our Yamaha content. It would be cool to have a Yamaha section here, but at the same time this is a Spree based site so I can understand not having Yamaha stuff.
The one thing that I do think that this site needs is 2 different sections, one section for the Spree's and one for the Elite's.
People post problems here on the site but rarely say if its a Spree or Elite, I've never owned a Spree nor worked on one so its hard for me to go through the forums and try to give advice to somebody, I read the threads and think I have an idea and then find out its a Spree they are working on and I read it hoping to learn something from the thread but thats the best I will gain from it.
It would be nice to have a the same thing we got now, only one for the Spree and one for the Elite just to clean it up. I would like to go into a thread knowing that its about an Elite, or a Spree.
I run a forum too so I understand that it can be hard trying to make everyone happy.

For any forum you
1) need a dedicated user base pursuing the same goal
2) need to have the intellectual property to back up the user base. When the site started there were only 2-3 people that could give out advice, and just on Spree. I think we have adequate coverage now.
I've noticed more Yamaha-related posts. My question is, do we have the intellectual capital to back it up?

seems to me we do.
we could get a few owner manuals and service manuals from other sites and upload them here. I mean, it might start small. it might stay small. its not like we have to advertise it or anything.
I had a jog, burnt toast has a jog, ALOW1 has a jog, vnice has a jog, veedubh20 has a jog(and is also know on other forums for his jogs) and those are just people i know have a jog and are helpful to the forum other wise.
decides that, assuming allot of the yamaha section would be just needing normal help, im sure other members of this forum would help out there.
it comes down to what you think. im just laying out some ideas.
