Cylinder Flooded with Oil

The Spree wasn't starting after a slight storage. All symptoms led to my piston being stuck or seized, but as I began to tear into the engine (remove muffler and spark plug) I realized that the engine would kick. What was really happening was that the entire cylinder was full of oil, and as I kicked it, oil splattered out of the cylinder (spark plug hole and muffler hole). Obviously I must have a problem with the oil pump/oil injector. Anybody have any ideas, experience, etc.? Why instead of "misting" oil into the cylinder would it just flood the entire cavity? Can it be fixed or does it need to be replaced? Any help is much appreciated in advance. Thanks!

Yes, your oil pump is bad. It is a slow leak while the scooter is not running. I've had some bad oil pumps, and there's been a few here with the same problem, but its not real common. Depending upon how bad it leaks, you could just start it monthly or weekly for a few minutes and burn off the accumulated oil.

You can confirm this by pulling the oil pump with shaft and input line intact, Leave the output line on the manifold. Then put the oil pump over a container for a few days.

Honda does not sell internal oil pump parts, limiting the repair potential.

Just happened to me yesterday. I replaced spark plug and changed a few things then went to do a plug chop. Everytime I pulled plug out it still looked new. I got home and pulled oil pump hose off, started motor, and waited. No oil at all. I changed to premix for now so I drained oil out of tank, removed gear from oil pump, capped off oil pump lines, and tried to start, it felt locked up. Same thing...I removed spark plug and pumped a crap load of oil out of cylinder. Now it's running normal.

So, are there any other parts in the oiling system to look at? I have this problem whenever the scoot sits for an extended length of time. I have replaced the oil pump with the new style, but I still have cylinder filling. I am running Castrol Act-Evo, a rather thin oil at 20 weight. Perhaps a 30 weight would be a better choice? Any help is appreciated.

Greetings:

If it's leaking, it doesn't much matter what you put in it. Check and repair or replace the pump or get a case plug from VT Cycles and start pre-mixing. :(
You might get Some Phorum members to give you an opinion as to ratio... :)

same thing happened to my aero when i first got it out of PO's grassy field...pulled the plug and got a GN2 bath when i kicked it over. definitely should replace it, mine started working for a while, then pooped out, resulting in engine seizure...

Greetings:

It must be a pretty common Honda problem. The AF05 crankcase on the DJ-1 was about half-full of the PO's blue oil when I pulled the cylinder off. Made a real mess of the Wheelman's boudoir. Maybe they all leak to a certain degree, the accumulation depends on the idle time duration? Sure would explain the pall of GN-2 smoke that settled upon Deepinnaharta the first time Flash fired up in 7 years. Concerned neighbors came by to ask if I was (illegally) grilling on the balcony! Might as well toss that new spark plug...
