Running lean?

Post by evilone »

ok, i'm running premix 32:1...about a 95 main jet (was running a 90 before premix and using stock air box with good plug chop)...cylinder and piston are 1 size over bored...uni foam filter...ported intake and exhaust port. Hitting 45-48 unless against wind. My question is, when doing plug chop why is plug still white? Should I upjet even more? By the way i'm premixing for now since oil pump went bad, I might keep premixing if I can get the "cocoa brown" I want.

Try a 100, and turn your airscrew all the way in(effectively fattens up idle jet).
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

ok. I have the air screw almost all the way in now (if I go any further it wants to stall).

Up the idle speed.

again... playing with the idle adjustment or playing with the air fuel mixture will not make it richer.. there are a few ways to get it richer. first of course get a bigger jet. second is restricting your air box, in your case with a pod filter, just get a bigger jet. Remeber that checking the plug is only good after a "WOT" wide open throttle run.
Good luck!

I ordered some gauge drills and will up the jet size in a few days. I have a stretch of road about a mile long for tests (light traffic). That should be long enough at WOT right?

jus remeber that once you do a WOT you need to stop and pull the plug. Sometimes ,not in your case , people think they are to rich. its actually because when idling the plug is fowling. The correct thing to look for in something called a fire ring. It usually appears all the way at the bottom for the porcelain. Since im a picky * about my jetting I actually cut open spark plugs for my drag bikes.

hope that helps you!

Can also use a die grinder with a cutting wheel.

Well i'm up to a 104 jet and put stock air box on. PLug chop=shiny dark grey "small" spot on one side of porcelain. I don't get it. I know i'm pre-mixing but d***! a 104 jet won't cut it? And I can only hit 40 with slow take off. I used to take off quick and hit 45-48. I'm about to go back to before oil pump went out. Time to put up and get some goodies over winter.

p.s. every time I up-jet The take off is worse and power seems weaker.

Have you tried running the stock intake setup again? Actually, why did you switch away from it?

Pull off the cover if you think you it's choking airflow.

When you say "stock intake setup" do you mean an intake that's not ported? And what cover that's choking airflow are you talking about? I thought restricting air filter box helped richen mixture. If the UNI pod filter has too much oil on it will it cause problems?
