Impact Wrench

I think I need to add one of these to my toolkit. Any benefit of air over electric? Any recommendations on brand or amount to spend. I dont need pro quality, but dont want cr@p. I've read getting the wheels off without one is a PITA.

I've heard electric impacts are convenient but over $400.00, Sears craftman air impact should be all you need. I'm thinking around $140.00? but then you need compressor.

You can get a cheapo electric one at harbor freight for under $100, probably under $50, they work fine.

Air tools are smaller, but require a compressor. Electric tools are usually larger and heavier. I have one of each, I prefer the air tool.

CHEAPER THAN THAT! Electric impact $20 at harbor freight when on sale!
It's one i highly recommend for scooter tuning, works great. and as far as quality I've had mine for over 3 YEARS! if it breaks I would have no regrets and easily buy another one, plus you can get 1yr warranty for like extra $5, cant beat it man.
air impact is not recommend because easily strips threads.

Air or electric will strip threads if you're not careful. This is more a matter of what the gun is rated at. Both mine will run to 200 ft-lbs; I dial the air gun back to minimum for anything on the scoot and haven't had a problem yet.

If you mostly are working on smaller stuff, take a look at 3/8" butterfly style air impact wrenches. Around 75 to 100 ft/lbs max, the 3/8" drive will get you into sockets that fit smaller sized bolt heads. You can set the wrench to a lower approx torque than a 1/2 drive to protect the smaller fasteners. 3/8 gets the auto valve covers, oil & trans pan, timing belt cover etc.. plus the yard equipment and scooters. It was also great for installing 2 1/2" lag bolts when rebuilding our entry way stairs.
If that fits your type of work, you could cover both bases with a good quality 3/8 drive, and a lower cost 1/2.

I picked up that impact wrench you recommended and it was on sale for $19.99. Darn good deal. considering it will probably only be used for the spree, it should be all that I need.
Its been a while since I've been to the local Harbor Freight. Man that place is fun. Even though some of the tools they sell look pretty cheap, they have everything and is a Man's man place to hang out.
I also got a two pairs of work gloves (1 leather, 1 canvas), 2 packs of shop rags, 1 package of small wire zip ties, 1 package of large ones, an assorted pack of shrink tube, 75' of poly rope, and probably something else i'm forgetting.

12v impact makita gun still going and had for over 2yrs .
