Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

Was browsing the new VTcycles site and the only part available for the Spree is an OKO Performance C.D.I. claim is increased top end for $30.

Can anyone comment on this item.

its a waste of cash.

The honda CDI isnt restricted, so putting an aftermarket CDI on there would have no affect. I bet if you called up VTcycles they would tell you the same. Its mainly for people with a bad CDI and need a new one. $30 is allot cheaper then honda OEM.

Thanks for the info. My mind is telling me to leave this cherry spree as stock as possible while my heart is telling me to strap a rocket engine on the back.

I think i need to find another beater here in sacramento that I can tinker with and lend to friends for rides around the neighborhood.

I'll stick to putting tires and a rack pack on the spree and just leave it alone save for general maintenance.

That's pretty much what I did.
I bought a '97 Elite SR for my beater. It's faster, and not as pretty. Pretty much what I was going for.
So now I have a cherry '86 Spree (red) and a sort of beater Elite (purple).

The elite's not that beater, but the Spree is too nice. I almost feel bad riding it. People always see the Spree and tell me, "Cute scooter" (not in a bad way either). I wanted something that I could lock to bike racks or get Slurpees with.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to go much faster than 32 on a Spree.

Hitting potholes is scary, and I have to sort of stand up (just enough to switch my weight) when its windy out, or else the front end blows all over the place.


I would like to keep the crime Spree though for scooter dates and whatnot.

When 'Pasquale' hits the 29mph mark, I start to get scared, man. I don't feel the bike is safe beyond 30. One wrong move, a momentary twitch, a sudden flat - B A M !!

I hate hospitals, but something tells me I'd be lucky to even be in one if any of the above were to happen.

LOL @ Dac... I agree. I can't stand going any less than 30. I had an Elite 150 that I could do 60 on and I was brave enough to go down the expressway, and *drumroll* without a helmet. Now that was brave, but stupid.

Well, I'm betting your old E-150 was slightly heavier, tracked better, was able to withstand wind buffering, and most of all - was designed to go faster.

But ya gotta understand, I'm an old fart who's put in time on big bikes - Bonnevilles, big-* BMWs, 'Guzzis, etc. I've had plenty of high speed thrillfests, and a few rubber-side up moments too. All out of my system now.

So yeah, I'll stick with <30MPH and let you young 'uns have all the fun.
