spree/dirt bike exhaust

My dad gave me this idea when he saw the picture of the cut open spree exhaust in the post "85 spree, test bed for mods" by Keithw.

o.k so you would cut open the exhaust just as keithw did and then you would cut that can like thing out at the begining of the exhaust, now this is when the dirt bike exhaust comes in. you could go on ebay and find a used performance muffler off a small 2-stroke dirt bike like a KX-65 fmf exhaust or some thing for cheap and cut it to were you just have the muffler its self an a little bit of the straight pipe left so you have welding surface. Now if you wanted to you could cut/what ever it takes to get the baffles out if you want even more flow.

So you would weld the dirt bike muffler in place of the can like thing or as keithw explains it whitch might be better "a glass pack kind of thing" and weld the new muffler in place, take out the number of baffles you want then weld it back together and you have a sleeper exhaust.

This is just a thought dont know how it mould work so i put it on here so i can get your guyes opinions. :?: :?: :?: :?:

Ahh, why not just weld the new exhaust can on and be done with it? You won't fit much of a pipe inside the old one.

yes true but then you dont have the sleeper look, space may be a problem but fmf does a "Power Core 2 Shorty" that is probaly about 4 inches but after i posted i thought the same thing as you. beside it would look pretty cool with the muffler just welded on, my scooter isn't much of a sleeper any ways

The problem is that the head pipe will be way too long. For a proper tuned pipe for the Spree the head pipe needs to be between 4 and 6 inches long. On mine the front cone starts way up by the head.

It isn't that long. Get a tape and measure 4 inches down the exhaust from the head. This is where you need to cut it off to install a proper tuned pipe. About a foot farther along where the stock muffler is welded on is way too long.
