Engine or Clutch Noise

Hi all
Just bought another scoot. Bike is complete all the electrics work, battery shot, wouldn't start even with a jump. When I opened the side cover I laughed . Had a nice petcock with on/off lever but the gas line went into the vacum port. Cleaned the carb good, replaced the petcock, set carb adjustments to specs, sucked new gas into carb, jumped started it and started right up. Heres the problem, idles good , revs good. made a make shift air filter until I get one from the dealership but sounds like there's rocks inside the engine. Don't think its an engine noise because when I rev it the engine sounds proper. I'm thinking it's clutch related although it seems to take off pretty good. Still I'm phys"d I did everything by the book and she started right up. Any ides what my noise may be.I also noticed the noise when I push the kick start and when I shut it down it seems to shut down pretty abruptly. thanks zeolig

Remove the drive belt and reassemble. If the noise goes away it's in the clutch. Remove variator and re-run if equiped.

Be careful not to overrev like this; little holding back engine.

Thanks noiseguy
I'm pretty good with engines but clutches are a hole new animal for me. I assume that I take off the cover plate. At that point can I turn it over and see if the belt is slapping? Variator?? zeolig

Pull the cover and then remove the belt according to the manual. Don't fuss with the clutch just yet, you're just diagnosing.

Sounds like blown crankshaft bearings and yes they will quiet down upon acceleration.
