My kick start is jammed... 93' elite

OK, so the kick start has been getting sluggish on my 93' elite. I've been able to nudge it back and kick start it and it's fine. But today was different.
I was able to kick start it half way, get to practice, and when I came back found it completely stuck.
So, before I take the whole thing apart, any ideas or suggestions?

I have a feeling it's just a ball-beering. My scooter will start if I press the kick start down a quarter of an inch. My electric starter is ehhh makes a dull mechanical/electronic sound in the crankshaft area. It's not turning over.

Mine is binding for some reason, dunno if its a bearing or what.

ok, so I just opened it up and, idk if I should've done this or what, but I sprayed WD-40 on the spindle and gear. (the kick start is connected to the spindle which turns the gear, which turns the drivewhateverbeltstartsengine)
I * around with it, as it was still stuck, and finally got it to budge. It(the spindle and gear) moves fluidly and I'm a bit unsure as to why the * it jammed aside from rust. I remove the "friction ring" from the gear and was able to turn that * a bit.
I don't think I need anything, aside from a clip that I destroyed when taking the cover off. I might order a spring to replace the crap mine has become.
***SOOOO, Should I grease this gear? Maybe even put grease on the spindle's serrations(where interlocking w/gear)?? I have a feeling WD-40 isn't the best long term solution.

I would try taking it apart. I'm fairly new to all this and it's right there. Note though, don't take the kick start off.
They have the manuals for all the scooters here so it'll give you some idea of what to look for.(although it doesn't really help that much when taking apart)
Just unscrew those bolts holding the side cover on and nudge it around a bit until it actually comes loose(it took me a min). You'll see, first hand, of what's going on in there.

Well I have done this actually, and I still can't figure out why its binding. All the parts seem to be there, it just doesn't want to move fluidly. I'd be careful of greasing it a bunch cuz if that gets on the belt, it could cause slipping.

anybody else have a binding issue like this?
You can kick it down, but then have to pull it back up. Very strange.

Have had a binding issue like this in the past on my 89 elite e. I pulled off the kicker cover, and cleaned, removed, and greased the gears before putting them back in, haven't had a problem since then.
I am now working on an 87 SE Elite, it would kick over fine before I took off the side cover to see how everything checked out, but now that I have it back together, and put the Jug back on (it was off the scoot when I got it) it is binding up like crazy. When I have the cover off, everything works smoothly, I can turn the kicker over with my hand, and watch all the gears turn, but once it's on the bike, no luck. Im mad, cuz I've been working on it the last couple of days in my free time and was expecting to be able to kick it over...
Any ideas out there guys?

I'm laying on the couch now so don't feel like taking pics, but on my kickstart lever gear (the big one), at the end of the half moon shaped thing, there is missing a tooth cutout. Its almost like its suppose to be there to stop the kickstart gear from moving too far in a counterclockwise direction after you kickstart it in the clockwise direction.
After re-assembling mine, it wouldn't move either, I checked this, and the mushroom gear thing that engages the drive pulley, was counterclockwise to this missing tooth cutout, binding it any time I tried kicking it over. I pulled the mushroom gear out, turned the half moon thing counterclockwise a bit, put the mushroom gear back on, and voila, it works again.
If you can't figure it out by morning, i'll go out and take some pics.

I actually saw this too, and was going to mention it... Had that problem last night, but realized it before putting the cover back on, I adjusted the half moon so that I was on the correct side of the missing teeth, put the mushroom spline back in, checked for free movement, bolted on the cover back on, and it's still binding... S***
Those missing teeth are a trip though... Was about to steal the half moon from the cover off an 89 elite E cuz I thought mine was missing teeth, glad you saw the same thing on yours.

I'm guessing they did this on purpose, since two people have the same thing; but......you would think over time, the gears on the small gear hitting that metal would knick them up a bit.
