Is my elite slow?

Post by steffen707 »

Yay it was 20 degrees out today so I took the 01 elite s out today. It felt great to be back on the seat; however, it could only do 30mph. I checked the carb and yeah, at WOT the slide thing was completely out of the way. I also did the variator de-restrict mod. What should I check? Could it be running lean from the cold weather and slowing it down? I thought they ran faster lean anyway. I have never played with the jet in this thing other than to clean it.

It doesn't feel like the engine could even go faster than 30mph, so i'm wondering how my scoot could ever go 50mph with a new variator and 9:1 gears.

check the plug, and air up tires

maybe exh is plugged up?

colder air should NOT make it go slower

I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Has new plug, aired up tires today. Could be exhaust. How do you check if its plugged, without doing that heat up torch procedure or lye bath?

Weight Loss Program

Post by Wheelman-111 »

You can weigh it. I read someplace that a new pre-94 exhaust weighed 3.7lbs - thinking that was light, might be KG. Anyway if anyone knows what your model's pipe is supposed to weigh, spit it out.

Of course you can always ditch it altogether and buy a Phony-Gear. Eliminate the variable. :) I had to go all the way to Der Fatherland to get mine. You got it easy. :)

Yeah you are right wheelman, I was gunna buy a pg long anyway. Guess I could just start throwing money at it. I'll pull it off tomorrow and weigh it.

In the meantime, anybody know what a stock 94-01 elite exhaust should weigh?

I know this question will get multiple answers, but what should I variator de-restricted 01 elite do max mph?

Looks like we both have the same issue. I took my 2000 out a few days ago for first ride and it was a dog. I'm not going to worry about it right now cuz it's so f'in cold.

See the funny thing is that i don't think its slower. Its always been this slow. I only rode it like 4 times last fall before I put it away for the winter. But its just SLOW.

healthy 94+ elite top speed is 35-36mph

this is what both of my elites did when stock, if the bike is rattier condition (like my black SR) it will likely be slower getting up to speed but should still do 35mph

Also check for leaks at airbox, pretty easy to throw 50cc intake setup out of sync with the slightest leak, this was always the case with my spree

hmmmm, well I made sure both sides were screwed together, and it was tight onto the carb.

Hmmmm.

So the gf is doing something with the girls tonight and my buddy bailed on playing cod5 tonight, so I pulled the exhaust off. And realized I dont own a scale. It weighs a tad more than my 1/2 impact.

After taking off the exhaust I noticed the spark plug wire isn't tight onto the spark plug. I push that back on, bolt up the exhaust, take it for a spin, and same 30mph. Also when slowing down twice it almost shut off on me. I featherd the throttle got it going again and drove home.

Pull into the exhaust and notice the spark plug wire is loose again. pull wire off, and half of the metal part inside that hugs the spark plug is missing. UGH. Try and take that off the coil cuz I could maybe use a spree one for another test, and find out that it won't come off of the coil for the life of me.

Is the coil and plug wire on the 01 elite one piece?

So if the tip of my spark plug wire is bad, do I need part 1 or just part 3?

I'm thinking just 3; however, how do you connect 1 and 3 together?

Apparently from page 15-3 of the manual, the plug cap unscrews from the plug wire. I just need part 3.

:) Hopefully that makes my scoot run up to 35mph then.

loose plug connection could do that, and pretty common on aged boots

and yes it should just unscrew off the coil wire without much force, dont just pull though

no need to order oem and pay $$ go to your Honda dealer or any local motorcycle shop and get a NGK 90deg bend plug boot, better quality boot over oem and costs like 5 bucks

Thanks toast! I will call up my local dealer now. I was just going to steal one off of the spree to test it out Checked the manuals, and there was some diference between the ohm ratings of them though, so i wasn't sure if it would be proper or not.
