Can my Elite hit 50mph with $200?

My 2001 Honda Elite SA50 goes 42 on flats since upgrading the pulley and weights, but I really want 50. Is this possible with a $200 budget? What would you suggest be my next purchase? Other than the pulley the rest is stock. Thoughts?

How good of shape is the belt in?

With a variator and some gears 50 is possible.

The belt looks good, but then again i'm not really sure what i'm looking for to determine if it is good or bad.

Greetings:

Gearing up gives you "longer legs" affordably, raising speed potential. Now the bad news: your newfound speed is all potential, litte practical. Upwind or uphill will kill it. Even if it tops 50 it will take longer to get to 30 than it does now, UNLESS...

You increase engine output. Pipes and intakes help but are pricey and application-specific. If you later decide to increase cc, your 50 pipe won't work as well for a 72cc. Instead...

I'd find a bore kit for around 200 and enjoy immediate acceleration gains where it matters most, in traffic. You won't go Interstating at 50 much easier than at 42. But @ 72cc you can beat Post Office Jeeps off the line.:)

If you save for gears later, you can add top speed without killing take-off. Pipe, carb and re-tune later still. "There's no replacement for displacement". - (? Anon.)

9:1 gears.

there like $50, and they will get you to 50mph.

You will loose a little take off, but 50mph.
I recommend calling up VTcycles. Those guys will help you decide what is the best for your bike. They are really cool dudes, they wont scam you.

I can see you both make good points. I guess I have to consider what it is im really looking for. My main use is to go to work and back, with some occasional cruising on the weekends. My work is 7 miles away on rural roads, 45 MPH and I have 4 or 5 stops. My biggest issue is on the longest stretch, I'm constantly getting passed by a-holes in huge trucks with rebel flags on them (Keep in mind I live in Michigan) It's a hilly stretch too, which makes me all the more nervous. Considering this I can see the gears winning out so far just because I have minimal stops and long stretches of 45 Mph.

My buddy as an all stock elite that we put gears and a pulley in (50mph combo).

His take off isnt bad at all. He can still roast chines 4 strokes off the line no problem. Im a heavy dude and i get on and do 45-50mph all day long.



Its a great setup for many reasons. I mean, Theres no tuning, No jetting, no break in. you just get on it and go.
If you do a bore kit, you have to jet it, you have to roller tune, you have to jet tune. you have to do a break in. Now if you are building a high speed bike it wouldn't be so bad. but i really dont think a bore kit is what your looking for right now.
Getting a pipe wouldn't be so bad. I mean, just swap the jet and keep an eye on your plug color.

Your best beat is to call up VTcycles and see what they say. Those guys are really cool guys. They have amazing customer service and will answer all your questions. Talk to them for a little bit and they will tell you whats best.
