I have replaced and or checked the stator the coil the cdi box and the magneto and still no spark. I have owned over a 100 mopeds and am constantly rebuilding or fixing them this one has me stumped. Any ideas?

I am using the electric start and turns over with no problem that means the kill switch and ignition are good right?

Isnt the pick up coil and the magneto the same thing?

engine still can turn over with the kill switch off when using the electric starter too.

No I am pretty sure that it has to be in the run position for the electric start to work

Running Off

Greetings:

That is incorrect. My starter motor operates with the "kill" switch set to stop. Of course the engine doesn't fire...

Honda appears to be unique in this way of doing things. With the engine stop switch off, my Harley-Davidson answers the call of the starter button with stony silence. A Yamaha I had did the same. All my Kawasaki experience has been kick-only 2-Stroke.

Reading your original post -

If you checked the stator by the resistance measurements in the Honda manual try some more tests -
1) Compare resistance reading for the exciter coil with a working scooter.
2) If convenient swap stator - (might as well check the coil and CDI too) with a working scooter.

Honda gives a large range of resistance for the stator, and I've had a few failures that were still within the range they give as good. A shorted turn on the coil can change the resistance by very little, but it really will kill the output.

I assume that you used known good parts when you were replacing things?

You're going to need to haul out a voltmeter and start testing parts and making sure voltage is getting where it's supposed to. If all the swapped parts were good and it's still not working, my bet is there's a loose connection in a harness, somewhere. You'll need to chase that down with a voltage lamp.

I have the same problem with mine. I have done just about everything and still no start. So frustrating! To think it could be a loose wire somewhere...
