Anyone know if i have to port engine case due to larger Malossi boost port? Is it required or just a performance recommendation. I don't want to kill my big bore :?

You dont have to match the ports.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

the only thing that will kill your bore kit is the wrong gears=heat

Higher RPM does not equal heat, low/* oil and/or running lean equals heat.

Malossi 72cc
8:1 gears
ct manifold/reed block
28mm oko carb/142 or so main
R1 muffler
uni air filter
2k center spring
oil pump plug and running premix...GN2 or better of course
single throttle cable
OKO variator with SEF ramp plate
Cylinder head temp gauge (i have an infrared hand-held to check if cht is correct)
Still need to break in (built over winter) and do some tuning

Fastest speed limit close to me is only 45 mph so i won't be WOT much at all, but i'll use it if needed

(props to burnt-toast) for setup ideas and answering all my pm's :D.

Thanks for the replies maddog and kenny. I wanted to post my setup in case anyone else wanted to reply. Sounds like i'm good for the summer and will have cases ported to match over next winter.

How do you figure? A higher sustained RPM does equal heat, maybe not too much heat, but I don't think you can argue that there is less heat at 4500 than at 7500. The wrong gears would mean that you're running at a higher RPM constantly, which equals more heat.

Total cost $590. I got some good deals though. R1 used was $65 shipped (new around $100-$125). Malossi 72cc on sale for $200 shipped (normal around $235). Cheap OKO variator off Ebay but spent $15 for the SEF ramp plate for it. CT manifold and reed block for $50, I think vtcycles sells them for $70. That's why my build reached this point, i was going to do a mild build to hit 50-55 mph with ok acceleration, then Veedubh20 had the Malossi for $200 shipped and that's how it started :D. Now i'm hoping to see around 65-70 mph quickly . Get the 28mm carb, uni air filter, gears, center spring, oil pump plug, single throttle cable, and sef ramp all at the same time from VTCycles and save some $ on shipping.

Huh...$890 complete including cost of scooter. :D :D :D. Thanks for having me add that up Jesse! That's only $90 more than Pep Boys POS Baha 50 :D. Chevyguyjay, i'll post pics when done since panels are off so i can run the single throttle cable and wiring for the cylinder head temp gauge.

He means the motor will meltdown from a higher RPM, properly tuned engines do not and will not melt down. Higher RPM means the fan is moving more air.

Still waiting on parts and repairing/painting some panels. Need a side stand!!! I didn't bother removing the center stand to clean and paint since it's coming off when i find a side stand. Oh yeah tires are ordered too..3.50-10

Here's the 94 in early winter after picking it up.

sweet pics yo

I'd recommend Caster927 for premix, MUCH better quality premix oil than GN2

Overall very nice setup, but good luck shooting for 70mph the R1 will hold you back likely. 65mph sounds solid though, like you said you probably won't need those speeds anyway :P

mind if I move this into performance? feel like it belongs there
projects galore :nerd:

Go ahead and move it :). 65 mph would be great, i wanted the PG short but couldn't pass on the $65 R1. I know the PG short is more for acceleration but that's more of what i want!
