Need Cylinder kit for 88 SA50

This is my first Elite SA50 and it bit the dust after first day. Don't know how the seller disguised the broken ring long enough to get it sold, but anyway.
Pulled the jug and took it to area shop (yamerhamer), promised 3-4 days turn around to bore 1 over. After 3 weeks and several phone calls, still not done. I told the guy I'll pick it up in the morning and go another route. I'm PO'd.
Anyway, internet just hasn't been kind to this challenged retiree. Where can I get cylinder kit, cylinder, piston, rings etc? A little power boost in the process wouldn't hurt, just as long as it buckles up and runs.

Go to hondaparts-direct and order a new jug and piston + all the other bits and pieces.

do you want to keep it stock or want to go with something aftermarket? ebay has many, look up daywot. ebay is a good place for scooter parts!

In roaming around, I see Dio engines and parts for Dio. Is that what I have?
daywot lists a POLINI 72cc BIG BORE HONDA ELITE DIO SA50 SR50 SK50 SYM. Is this a good way to go? Is that good deal and is it good quality? $200 + $30 shipping. That's about same price I would have to pay for local parts & bore.
It appears to have everything but wrist pin bearing. How important is that to replace?
I know, lots of questions, but I'm not just dumb, I'm plumb dump on these scoots. Fun to ride, but challenging to work on.
Just noticed something else on the kit. Says for 1994-up. Mine is 1988 SA50. ????

Greetings:
Your '88-'89 'Lite bears an engine coded AF 05E. Remember that because everything you order needs to fit that block. The 1994-later Elites in the US are branded AF 16E. Forum denizens often refer to your engine type as SE50, and the later 16s are casually called SA50. It's a bad habit.
I suggest you email Patrick at Daywot and tell him what you have. He stocks a kit by Polini with a 47mm bore that takes your 37.4mm stroke and turns it into a good-breathing 65cc. The difference is remarkable. The kit to fit the AF 05 is about $200 including shipping. Start there.

i rebuilt my 87 Aero NB50 to stock specs, it cost more than the big bore cylinder! unless its a very very clean unmolested specimen, its not worth it... daywot's polini kit is a winner.

Wheelman, I'm a step ahead of you on contacting Patrick, and he is quick to respond. He said "no" on the kit I was looking at. He proposed rering and get my jug bored local, but that's part of my problem. I can't get them off their dead rearend to finish the job.
I just spotted another one.

Do you think that will work?
I found the nomenclature and can confirm that it is AF05 E.
In fact, I had purchased two Elites in less than a month, the other is an Elite "E". Now that I know where to look, I checked it too, and it's an AF05 E. I'm learning, slow but sure.
scooterwerx, this kit I'm looking at now is supposed to work on your scoot. Price $175 plus $15 shipping.

Careful. No upgrades are available for the Elite E. It's a glorified Spree. Wheelman has this thing with the AF05E thing, but I'm not sure he realizes the NQ50(Spree) and SB50(Elite E) share the same identical engine codes.
Hence, this is why we call it "SE50" to avoid confusion, and I'm sure alot of people will agree.

Aha, i knew the sb50 is af05e! no upgrades for the elite e sb50, the regular elite sa50 is the one that has a great many aftermarket parts...

All this is making my head swim. Let me see if I've got this straight. Even though the two scoots both have same engine code (AF05 E), they are not the same?
I wrote Patrick two different eMails and probably confused him, but his response was
"the 88 sa50 has a slightly different intake port design which means that in order for the se50 kit to work you would have to modify the base gasket and line up the ports by additional port work."
Now, by 88 SA 50, I don't know if he is thinking about a dio? Or AF05 E? Does it make sense that there could be two different AF05E designs?
Here's the most recent kit I'm looking at
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... &viewitem=
In the description, it says it will fit
"us models HONDA ELITE SE50 OR HONDA AERO NB50 (MODEL YEARS 1985-1987 ONLY) OR EUROPEAN MODELS VISION NE50"
This can be confusing. I wonder if this kit would work on my Elite "E"? I haven't pulled the side panels yet to compare the two side by side. They both have AF05E engines, but don't know about the intake port.

nope. no big bore kit will work on the little Elite E, unfortunately. the 88 lx should use the same kit as the nb50, se50, and pre 94 sa50. i think...

Somebody told me a old style elite(pre 94) bore kit would fit on a spree and maybe aSB50, but the popup was -5mm(jug would have to be decked) dunno if the ports would need to be matched.

You said you have 2 elites and 1 is an elite e right? If so, yes that polini will work on your 88 sa50/af05 motor...and no it won't fit the elite e af05.

Which one? I've been looking at two Polini kits, one I think is for 94 up SA50, the other lists it as for SE50. My SIL used to race 4 wheelers and when I told him about modifying the port gasket as Patrick stated, he connected.
After leaving my cylinder with Honda house, for almost a month, dozen phone calls and no satisfaction, I drove up (30 miles) and picked it up today. On the way back, at Jiffy Lube, I met a fellow who had a friend who runs an independent shop who can bore and get parts for much cheaper than Honda House. I'll be checking him next week. 30 miles different direction. He's into racing 4 wheelers but also knows two strokers and may know about juicing one up.
If this guy can bore, can I bore my old jug to 47 and get a 47 piston, and then have the equivalent to the Polini? That seems to be the only difference with the Polini. Stock is 41, the Polini is 47. Even if not, I think this may be the best way to go, considering all the question marks with Polinis.
