racing idle ? problem

PROBLEM: motor only runs if i cover the back of the carb with my fingers , the more air i let in the higher it rev's . with my hand off it goes to full throtle and dies out ?

THINGS I'VE TRIED: cleaned the whole carb inside and out , check throttle needle to see if it raised up when turned, turn both idle and air/fuel mix screw's half turns from closed to fully open looking for the right idle . took off bystarter or choke thing and plugged the hole with my thumb.

GUESS OF WHY ? this motor does not have an oil pump and im premixing wrong (10 to 1 ), i lost the key and broke the ignition so it turns freely , there's a empty port on the back of the carb all the way at the top on the right hand side ,cant find a spot to plug it to ?

1st of all 10 to 1?! thats too much oil. i mix 34-38 to 1 an i heard even that was too much. 2nd it doesnt sound like u have an airbox/filter assymbaly set up. u need it.

if u use that type of filter u will have to rejet to get it running right. u are better off with the stock box.go according to the mixing instructions on the oil bottle for what retio to mix the oil. i wouldnt use a spoon to measure it.it depends on the oil but i mix 4oz. to a gal. that =s like 36-1 ratio. keep in mind the spree has a 1/2 gal tank if mixing in the tank. i would reccomend mixing out of the bike tho.

Premix from 1:50 to 1:32. Follow the directions on the bottle.

Your unplugged port concerns me. Any chance this is an incorrect carb for that bike? See if it matches the manual. And check the manual to see what was supposed to go there.

I'd get your airbox working and install a #65 jet, unless you want to play with jetting as well.

its the right carb for sure , i have 3 spree's and they all have the same one . as for the port it sticks off the back and goes under the plastic head cover ? not sure if that helps put there's got to be something to plug it too
