86 spree dies when riding
Ive been driving my 86 spree all spring with no problems. The other day I went to start it up and when I sat down to take off the thing just bogged out and died. I had run out of gas about 3 hours before this so I though that the carb might not be filled with gas. So I started it up no problems there, and then let it idle for a little then giving it gas after a while. Once again when I went to ride the thing it got up to about 25 then sounded like it was miss firing, because it would fire on and off and then it slowly died out. However the thing fires right back up everytime. I haven;t had a chance to take the panels off and see whats wrong yet, but could this be a clogged muffler problem? The fact that it starts up very easily and doesn't die when idling makes me think that it is. What do you guys think?
i had a very similar problem, i took off the body panels and saw that my air filter had popped open. take off the body panels (takes roughly 3 minutes), and make sure all the clips on the air filter are all the way down. if that doesn't fix it, you could also try cleaning the air filter (taking out the foam element inside of the air filter, cleaning it with some strong solvent like paint thinner, dry out, soak in motor oil, squeeze out excess, reinstall)
also try playing with the throttle/idle adjustment screw, if it's out too far, it can die when you give it gas. you can access the screw without taking off the body, it's the screw you see through the little hole in the middle-bottom of the left body panel. try it in all the way, and turn it out until it works right (the farther it is out, the less gas it gets at idle)
