New Spree....parts of fix?

I am already the owner of an 86 spree but i couldnt help buying a mint 84 with only 600 miles for only 75 bucks. I figured if it didnt work out I could part it out due to the nearly flawless condition. Turns out the original owner put it away for a winter and following a few years couldnt get it started again. Apparantly someone took the engine apart thinking that would help so I'm stuck with the head of the engine in pieces. Judging by the photos, do you guys think it would be worth it for someone with what little knowlege I have of engines to tackle what seems to be a rebuild of this engine. If so, Im sure I can turn to this forum for help. *the piston isnt siezed...it moves up and down still. Well I cant seem to get a picture to load on if anyone can help with that also, but there are two peices loose off the engine on the top part. Thanks!

I couldnt get the photos to load, but upon further review opf the situation in the light of day I have come to see the piston is cracked on the bottom part. Any Ideas? Thanks

If you intend to keep and ride your Sprees, consider the 44mm bore kit to replace all you've got.

that sounds good for mine, but this spree is going to my mom who has no need for speed. So wouldn't a stock piston work out for that?

It's got 600 miles on it, and is in parts?

Slap it back together as-is and see if it runs. Those parts should be pristine.

I would love to noiseguy, no doubt about that, but when turning the fan I can definitly tell there are pieces of piston inside the engine and the piston is visibly cracked on the bottom

New Honda piston and cylinder kit are likely to cost more than the bore kit from Taz. My suggestion is to fix the broken one up with the 44mm kit and decide which engine belongs in whose bike.

As well, if you hear pieces of that piston in your engine, take a magnetic stic and get all of the pieces out, that will ruin your whole engine in a heartbeat!

Magnetic Aluminum? I think not.

Better to disassemble, split cases, wash out thoroughly, check bearings and start over.

ahh. true, i didn't think about that, the piston rings aren't aluminum though, are they?

I'd take a shop vac then, and make sure you hear no rattling.

Agreed, those pieces must come out, but I am having trouble dissembling the engine. Trouble spot is where the cooling fan is screwed on to and makes the piston go up and down when turned(cant get it off). There seems to be a notch for a special tool to use once the nut is off. As for the 44mm kit...any ideas how much?(found 100$ on ebay)
