Rear tire blew out on the 2000 DIO.. I always thought these mopeds were tubeless stock, but it appears that the valve stem thats sticking out is a tube? (haven't pulled the tire off yet)

Does anyone install real valve stems and run tubeless? Can I do that without sealing the rim or anything??

as long as the new tire is designed to run tubeless, you'll be fine. the valve stem hole is smaller than a standard automotive valve stem, but they have motorcycle stems at most tire shops. HOWEVER... if the tire is a tube-type tire, the tire will leak because the inner liner of the tire is not airtight. i personally run bridgestone hoops, which are tubeless, with no sealer on my steel rims @45psi and i've not had any pressure loss due to bead leaks, but if you have aluminum rims, bead sealer is highly reccomended because aluminum rims tend to develop bead leaks quickly.

this is wrong. elite rims ARE tube type and just because you run tubeless tires doesn't mean you won't need a tube, i've tried

leaks happen out the welds for the spokes

just run new tube

Run tubes with stock rims. Bead retention in the event of a sharp object encounter is not guaranteed. Sudden deflation = no fun. Run tubes.

run a tube on tubeless tires?

tube and tubeless rims are different.

ya I know they are different, but people do it with honda crf 50's all the time.. They use a glue or sealant to seal where the spoke nipples are, then just run no tube lol


I decided to say screw it, I'll just throw one of my patched tubes in the moped. I have like 6 patched tubes sitting around from my crf 50

Btw all I use for patches, are old cut up tubes, and rubber cement.. I've had tubes with over 10 patches in them that held up great LOL

You are likely to crash your dirtbike once in a while anyways, but on the street you cannot only hurt yourself, but others as well.

I'm not too concerned about hurting someone else with a moped while I'm out not wearing a helmet... I'm more worried about someone hitting me

And I'm certainly not concerned when half the time I ride the ped I'm in a wheelie lol

Yes, and a spine protector can keep you from breaking your spine, a set of knee/elbow pads can keep you from getting bruised, a chest protector can stop you from puncturing a lung, boots can help you not to break an ankle, a kneck protector can help you not to break your kneck..

I didn't make this post to hear about safety... I ride combo wheelies down the freeway on my sport bike, I'm not too concerned about riding a moped 1000miles a year just to 'cruise' around.

Do note, I ALWAYS wear a helmet on my sport bike, and I ALWAYS wear gloves. And I occasionaly wear my spine protector and knee/shin guards.

But the whole point in riding a scooter for me, is to ride it from point A to point B without a helmet. If I had to wear a helmet, I'd just sell the thing and ride my 100hp street bike that'll beat any moped in FIRST gear..

^^^ I know that post might get some hate, but I really don't care. I don't care to hear it. Tell someone else about safety. I don't ride wild on the streets, I don't SPEED, I don't split cars, I wear my seatbelt in my car. I've NEVER had a speeding ticket, the ONLY ticket I've ever had was a no turn signal ticket in 6 years of driving.

But I always wear my helmet while learning new stuff, riding fast, getting wild, and/or riding my dirt bikes/street bike in a wheelie.

Btw I'll upload a video ONE OF THESE DAYS on my friends elite 50.. I can rock circle wheelies as well as ride wheelies for blocks and blocks on it LOL'

And as much as you might dislike people who ride wheelies, you gotta admit, if someone passed you in your car on a moped on 1 wheel, you'd laugh. Maybe not, maybe you'd call 911.. But really, I'd rather see someone paying attention, controling their vehicle be it on 4 wheels, 2 wheels, or 1 wheel, then some jack * in a 9,000lb vehicle on their cell phone not paying 1 bit of attention
