Hello there,

I have a 1986 Red Spree that I've been riding around on over the summer and it started to lose some power, so i cleaned everything that I could. But that wasent a very good Idea, now when I start it will go about 500 ft. at normal preformance before dying, then it will start up but when I accelerate over 5 mph it bogs out and dies.

So if anyone could help me with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it, Thanks

Your carb is probably dirty, and I'm guessing that you put the bystarter in wrong or blew the oring on it. Re-clean and inspect your reassembly job.

Ok I looked at the bystarter and the O ring was shot, and there was a minor crack above the O ring. Now my dad wants to know everything there is about the bystarter, like what it does and how to test it and stuff like that.

Download the manual in tech docs. It controls the cold idle circuit, replacing a manual choke.

if you search this section for "bystarter" you'll find a ton of explainations for what it does. basically there's wax inside that expands/contracts as your engine heats/cools. this expansion closes/opens a fuel enrichment circuit that allows a cold start. if it's not working it's hard to start and if stuck in the wrong position or if the seal to the carb is leaking it will cause poor performance.
