fuel line size

Post by twist »

Hi Guys,

So I'm pretty sure my spree isn't getting fuel. I've got spark and decent compression but it still doesn't run. I've tried sucking on the fuel line, no fuel comes through. I have the old woven lines and I'm wondering if that is the cause. What size ID and OD are these? It looks like an 1/8" ID, but I'm not sure. I've also read on this forum that Tygon tubing is good for this. What do you think? Also, I'm fairly certain the petcock is working. I've got two and tried them both, so I'm thinking my chances are pretty good with that. Let me know your thoughts and thanks! :wink:

Tygon=good
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Not sure, Greg AKA uspmale sells a kit that will replace all the lines on the bike. http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... f=2&t=1488

The vacuum line is what you have to worry about, one little crack and your *.

dont wory about the line size just make sure they are not cracked i have a 86 spree i have the old lines and they work fine. now i dont have any cracks in my lines. as it says here the vaccume line is the most imortant. take it off the intake and unhook the carb line too then suck on the vaccume line and then gas should pour out of the carb line. if not petcock if it is then you have a vac leek

You can suck a lot harder than a engine does cranking over, its hard to tell condition with the POS braided lines. With the yellow tygon you can tell people the bike runs on mountain dew.

swap out the fuel lines to solve the headache of worrying about them, i've got the braided ones too and they run fine, but i can't imagine being able to tell if anything was wrong with them.

take your "bad" petcock (or 2) and fill up a mason jar with gasoline, then let them soak for a day or two. Sometimes it will revitalize the rubber diaphragm inside.

I don't have a spree, but looking on the OEM parts fiche, there should be two fuel lines coming from the petcock, no?

The lower line is 3.5 mm, and the top is 4.5 mm. I'm not sure if that's ID or OD. I see you live in Minneapolis, so if you go to Honda Town on Lake Street, they may have that in stock for pretty cheap, bought by the foot. Just tell them the metric size and they'll know what you're talking about.
