New old spree - extra no power

Hey guys, im tryin to help a friend get and old spree running, mostly to gain some minor mechanic skills. The electric start is blown, nothing, no noise from the solonoid even. but thats not important yet because it kick starts fine after sitting two years, a testamant to honda. up on the center stand the rear wheel will haul but if theirs any weight on the bike it wont do much. It can push me around at 1 mph. Do you think this is a compression issue. do i need new seals. also good to know that i cleaned and re-oiled the airbox and took a peak into a perfectly clean carb, so those options are sorta out.
I dont tottaly know the year but i would guess early 90's. is it supposed to be absolutely impossible to get to the engine or is their some secret here too?

ok you got it started. thats step one, will it idle? sounds like the fuel isnt getting to it very good check the petcock (its the little UFO shaped thing on the gas tank. it has 2 hoses coming out of it, one is a fuel line and one is the Vacuume line. disconnect both from the carb and suck into the vac line (ok the fuel line is the one going into the carb itself and the vac line is the one going from the maniflold (the part the carb hooks up to the engine). Fuel will come out of the fuel line when sucking on the vac line. if not then get a petcock (dont get it at a honda shop for $48) get one on ebay for $12

OH to get to the engine and petcock you must take off the plastics under the seat (super easy) just start removing the rack on back then the petcock cover in frount and below seat then one bolt below the petcock cover. both side covers will come off. there you go.
Down load the repair manuel on this site it is worth it.

Clean the carb, it might just be running lean, then start looking at the belt and clutch.

ok, ill give the petcock and carbs a look through in the next few days. but to answer your question it does idle, and it revs pretty high. I might expect something clutchy because the first quarter turn of the throttle i can hear the engine reving but the wheel doesnt spin. it kicks in eventually however. I wonder if this helps any more

Ok, so as progress goes i took apart the carb because it seems like it couldnt ever hurt, of course when i put it back together the engine wouldnt start. What do you think the most common problems that arise when rookies clean carbs, I used pb blaster which i know is not the recomended chemical but its very similiar to carb cleaner. Im taking it apart again right now just to get one more look through and will try to reatach it tommarow.
Also, while revving it in my backyard i was thinking about the clutch/drivetrain, i dont think it would be the belt because the engine dies when the weel is restricted from turning, so i am assuming the belt is not slipping inside there, i could be tottaly misguided of course. And the clutch, well ya thats probably blown, its old, but i dont think this problem developed slowly such as clutch plates wearing out, it was more emmediate.
SO what does everyone think, and keep in mind everything i say is mostly a guess but i hope im leading someone in the right direction.

wait sh*t, pb blaster is NO GOOD, it leaves a "protective lubricating residue" obviously this is bad, that teaches me about trying to stay cheap, well its off to the store for something legit. also I may have found a cause for some of my havoc, the seal that connects the last carb piece directly to the engine was tottaly dry rot. where can i find another, i can get up some pics soon but if anyone can guess what i need, well.... your very smart. once again, the metal piece in between the actual carb and the engine, it contains the suction hose, has a seal that touches the engine, this thing is messed up.

intake manifold is what youre talking about I believe. it goes carb > intake manifold > reeds
a quick search on ebay turns up this list:

if you need that it looks like you're in luck, pretty cheap stuff going on there. i believe the 85-87 modles are all interchangeable, but I haven't torn into my spree yet so don't quote me on that, be sure to look it up.
i would also check with forum member bradthree, he's got a ton of spree parts. i'm buying some stuff from him this week and he's been great helpin me out, has all the parts I need and offered me prices I couldn't find on ebay or craigslist. cool dude all around, check out his thread for spree parts here:
