After a long cruise (full out) Spree slowly looses power....

Spree is running fine for short trips to the pub, but if I head out for a cruise and have it full blast for a few minutes (5-10 minutes) the Spree starts to loose power.
And, if I let go of the throttle, the handle grip turns back to it's regular position, but the engine continues to cruise along.....really weird.
If I come to a complete stop, then give it some gas, it boggs out, unless I give it just enough and it finds a sweet spot, she will slowly putt along and slowly gain speed.

Is this a bystarter or something not returning to the correct position once in heats up???

Any thoughts?
Thanks guys,
Steve

Perhaps your float inside the carb is taking a dive. Is it cracked or a small hole in it. Could just be time for another carb cleaning.
I would also check your throttle cable and throttle needle to make sure they are operating smoothly and not jamming up.

Check the heat range on your plug, use the "extended high speed operation" plug. Your plug is getting so hot that the tip is auto-igniting the mixture. Not good.

Pulled the plug - this is what she looks like.....is this pretty typical? Does seem a little wet - too rich?

A bit or carbon, but not too bad for 25 year old Spree I figure.

Jet is definitely a #65. Is my only option to adjust the clip on the needle?

pretty much, if ur running that rich. are u premixing?

Nope, no premixing.
But I do have to run it with the airbox open a crack, or else I have 0 power. I figured if anything, running with the air box open a little would make it more lean....??

yes the air box open would make it run lean. 1st it sounds like u have a dirty filter. take the filter out and seal the box it it has power then it was the filter.try that first. then adjust the needle.

Are you running injector oil or premix oil? That looks like premix oil fouling. It makes a mess of plugs, heads, and ports.

If you're running premix, you need to purge the system and switch to injector oil.

I'm using synthetic injector oil and just pouring it into the oil tank.

Will try cleaning the air filter again. and adjusting the needle.
