If you're running your air-cleaner, take it off and see if that fixes it.

If you have access to another carb (probably not), then just swap the carb and see if that fixes it.

Or, try replacing your needle jet and needle jet retainer. It's pretty easy to change them, and you want to do it every so many years anyway since they will wear out over time.

Same EXACT problem here with a 1985 spree. Jams on the centerstand and for a few minutes under load, but then bogs and stalls. Does feel like it's fuel starved, but only when it has a passenger on it.

I'm wondering if this could be cdi related (about all that's left to check)... But I don't really see how bad spark or timing from the cdi would cause bad performance ONLY under load.

Any new ideas?

Well, this is a long thread, and there's a couple different scooters involved.

Here's an idea for wayalive:

Check the fuel flow from the petcock, with a vacuum applied and hose disconnected. If just drips and not a dribble, clean the tank strainer and petcock.

Guys i also have the same problem with my 85 spree. I did however have a spare carb from an 84. Unfortunately it helped nothing. Hard starting, wont idle, cut out at 15mph. Will idle high for a while then stop. runs good once in a while at high idle. These dang sprees are the most frustrating machine i have ever worked on. I am no expert but i am not an idiot either. Man im pulling my hair out. I have all kinds of parts, and also an 84 that i just bought that is so hard to turn over with a spark plug in it, or even with my thumb over the hole, Arrrrrrghhhh

Just take it to a honda dealer. I think i am gonna. 60 bucks an hour is a buttload of money, but at least your dealing with a certified technician. I'm just so fed up. :-(
