oh i thought a jet was like the little piece with a hole in it like in the main jet that screws out. The idle jet isn't something like that is it?

The main jet is the one that screws inside the carb. You have to take off the bowl float to get to the main jet. You might want to check that to but your idle screw is the one with the spring and the one below that is the screw tells the carb how much gas is getting to it. Good luck

Thats what i thought it was, nah, the idle jet is cleaned out well.
The airbox is still a possible problem though as it doesn't have the seal between the two parts.
Will your bike start without the airbox attatched?
And thanks again SO SO much for your help guys!!

Yes your bike will start without the airbox on. As long as your not riding down the road without an airbox youll be alright. If your airbox doesnt have the seal but has a good clean fiber (air filter) than it should be ok. But if your talking about the boot that goes from the back of the carb to the airbox than you might want to get one or rigg something up.

Then I am so at a loss to figure out what the problem is.
Does the bystarter open a hole in the carb when starting or block it?
Would it tell me anything to take the bystarter apart?

Make sure that the exhaust system is clear. Check the port at the head,
the pipe and the muffler.

Ah ok when i cleaned the carb i might have missed the TINY TINY idle hole inside the main carb chamber that has its path to the idle screw hole and the brass pilot jet tube. I think i blew carb cleaner through the idle screw hole and when it came out the pilot tube i thought it was clear. I sent it with my girlfriend to work to see if she can find a very thin wire that will clean that path. Do you guys think this might be the culprit? I sure hope so!!

Yes, that tiny tiny hole is the idle jet. I'm betting it's blocked.
DO NOT RUN A TINY WIRE THROUGH IT!!!! You will enlarge the jet and screw up the carb. Use a toothpick or a pressurized can of carb cleaner.
Spree will idle but not accellerate with the airbox detached. I'd get the airbox fixed and the filter changed after you get the carb cleaned. Like we said.

Gotcha should i be able to see light through it when its clean?
I am using a very thin cactus quill and i keep poking down the tube but it stops how small is this jet hole??

The hole is small but a cactus thorn would go threw it. Its not that small, but if it doesnt go all the way threw and you cant see light threw the jet than that is the reason it isnt starting. That jet needs to be clean so gas can flow threw it. Hope it works

You need fairly bright light in the carb bore (sunshine,) then you can just barely see the light. Once you can you're done.
If you have a compressor, try blowing compressed air through the jet. You could also try a carb soak (comes in a can gallon can from parts places, follow the directions, don't put rubber bits in!)
If none of those work, stop back by.

If its not that than its got to be eather the cylander head needs to be decarbonized or its and electrical problem.

I cleaned it again and i can get carb cleaner to squirt out the hole in the carb chamber. Hooked everything back up and....
still the same problem. It will only start by covering the airbox opening.
Ok so i guess i will breakdown and buy a new bystarter right?
it only has like 1500 miles and the carb didn't look that dirty - do you really think it needs a de-carb? Also Im getting a spark - are you saying something else electrical could be to blame?
Thanks guys

Ok the next thing to check is the electronic choke on the top of the carberator. It is black, has two screws holding it down and has a hook up to the wiring harness. You might want to take that off and clean it. If you have already done that than leave it pluged in to the wiring while it is off the carb. When you hit the electric start you should see the needle come out of the bottom of the electric choke. If not than that could be your problem. If that works than we will go to the next step till we get it right.

bystarter is the electric choke.
