Dewde mystic you need to sell your carb and pick up a 24mm carb. I have yet to see a 72cc reach its full potential on a smaller carb like that

While you may be right, I gotta work with what I have. A bigger carb isnt going to do me much good without a better exhaust plus I am trying to keep my gas milage low :P and it is broken in I gots it used

The only thing a bigger carb will do for you is make it even harder to tune. Too much carb is the biggest mistake rookie hot rodders make.

Imma remove the small tabs against the reeds, mark the vari, and take the main completely out tomorrow and tune my pilot and needle to get that right then start with 118 main and work down. I have 118 107 103 100 95 and 90

Bear you know nothing about hot rodding a moped. Yeah us young guys we like sooping up our peds and going fast. Your old and i get that you like your aeros and sprees and whatever you got in your garage out in the woods that makes you think your better. Fact of the matter is a 21mm is too small for a 72cc even with the stock pipe. I dont care if bear says that a 24,26 or even a 28mm is too big because those carbs have been tested and proven by us hot rodders on the street and the track. You know nothing about sooping these bikes up bear. You can win 100 national speedboat championships and still no nothig about building a dio motor because you hve ZERO experience doing it.

have you ever put a trimming light on it ???? i do no how Dum it may seam to be saying but there is a small amount of movement in the pick up .. so even a 32 of a inch wood change the timing curve that is in the cdi box and if you looking for more rpms that may be one of the things that holding you back ...

No offense King but it has been proven by several people that the contesta will perform rather well with a 21mm. Heck the kit comes with a jet for the stock carb :P

I was hot rodding engines, 2 and 4 stroke before you were born. So don't tell me about how great you are and that I know nothing about the subject. I also know for a fact that to much carb is an over all performance killer more than any other thing done to an engine by the rookies and wannbees. But your narrow minded concept of performance is top speed only and that just doesn't get it, except at the salt flats. Everywhere else you need low end and decent mid-range which too much carb hurts or kills. Also, what the * makes you think hot rodding a scooter is different than hot rodding any other 2 stroke?.....NOT! The short sightedness and arrogance of the narrow minded know nothing is amazing.

Swimmingfree suggests my timing could be off as well but I dont quite understand how that is even possible since the flywheel only goes on 1 way and the pickup only bolts on 1 way. I lined the marks up when I put it on and I used a stick in the spark plug hole to verify that the piston was TDC matching the line on the flywheel with the notch on the crankcase

You are right about the flywheel and the sensor, but it is possible the CDI is screwing up the timing, but very unlikely.

:D yea I dont think the CDI is the problem. About to go out now and do those things I listed. If anyone else has any suggestions I will be checking periodically. I would like to get this sorted today so I can have peace of mind at least hahha supposed to rain for the next 3 or 4 days so no tuning for me :(

been doing some math ...heres what i got ..if wrong please show me ...

fly wheel is 4.1875
times pie 3.1415
equ 13.1550
dive by 360 0.0365

so if the pick can move 0.0365 of a inch ( hafe each way ) it will be off by 1 degree.. now us old guys will tell you that a hafe of a degree in timing is the differences in winning the race.... now that's with points and a vacuum advance sistom not a cdi box

and one other thing why did honda spend the money to put the mark on the fly wheel if not so the timing cood be check ???

unless he advanced his timing some how, then he should be revin higher = more speed. the plug br6hsa honda uses from the factory is a special designed for poor timing, so if you maybe bout a br_hs, that might affect your timing... but seems really doubt full since i havent heard of many people having timing issue.. 21mm carb is just fine my cuz had same set up with stock carb doing 50, but 8.44's in a technigas next r pipe on wich is not really high performance gets to almost 60mph now.. first thing i would try is cleaning my air filter.. impossible to tune if its dirty...
