Most people, including myself, want better lights on their sprees.

Here is a mod for a 1986 spree headlight
Now I know this light takes more power than the stock light, but not too bad on a nicely charged stock battery.
However I would not recomend this much light for any scooter, as I am pretty sure that it is not legal in any state.
This HID kit is rated at 10k in brightness and is a H11 style bulb

Tools required for this mod are:
Magicstick
cardboard (thin)
Sharpie marker
1 US nickel

is that silver peace behind the plug the nickle? oh that tail light got shipped out yesterday btw.

where did you get the bulb? i like how the looks, low beak could just get a lower watt lite.

It is a kit for a car with a ballast and eveything. Only uses half the kit, so find a buddy to chip in on a kit. they are about $80 for the kit and about $25 for replacement bulbs (for 2 bulbs)

The stock headlight runs off of AC current, so to do this conversion , you need wiring right from the battery and about 12 awg wire and a switch (I used the stock headlight swicth and a relay. High beams = on low beams = off)

Also note that the stock light consumes 1 amp of current. The HID setup uses 3 amp of current when in use and up to 7 amps to start up

These are REAL HIDs There is no filliment in the bulb, only gas that glows Very bright when you put 20kv to it.

The nickle is for measuring and template making. It seems I will have to explain this in more detail

Use the Magicstick to cut the old bulb out of the sealed beam housing



Now the opening should be about the size of a nickel. Remember to shake out all the broken glass from the original bulb.


Get a piece of thin carboard to make a template from the bulb. I used a sharpie to mark it all out.

2 questions - What's a Magicstick?
Is the inner bulb envelope intact in this mod?

that is a great setup!! but at 80 a pop WOW!!!. i wonder though and i know it was talked about once before somewhere but why couldnt we do the same with a regular automotive bulb with a filiment. is it because of the more the 25w the stock one uses? i have a couple here that are like 55W. im sure there is a 25-30W somewhere out there.

Yeah $80 might seem like alot but that is for a pair. If two people want this kit, I will split up another kit
You can use a regular automotive light bulb. And those should be about $5. I just chose the H11 cause I had them. I did a different one with a H3.
I got the mounting harware from a broken fog light

A # 2:the stock dual filliment bulb gets destroyed.

T-jamz on the second one with the fog lamp,did you also use the direct batt power and the switch or will it run off the power like stock?

The H3 bulb has the base grounded for a DC only setup. So that one still would need direct battery 12v and a switch.

But a non HID H11 could run on the stock wiring (AC circiut)

that same bit you used for the porting on your engine case, correct? if so i'm going to get that bit for sure.
