Shipping rates - what am I doing wrong

Obviously, I don't ship that often. Selling a muffler to someone here on the forum. I boxed it up - weighs 7 1/2 pounds, box is 25 x 17 x 9. Got on USPS to print a label and the shipping cost was at $50.00 - only offered express and priority - both right around $50.00. This is from Atlanta, GA to Portland, Oregon.

Checking further, it looks like I can use their flat rate large package (if I can find one) and send it for around $15.00.

Either I'm doing something wrong or they really want you to use their boxes.

Click on "other" next to priority. It takes longer (about a week) but it should be about $15 for shipping.

Greetings:

As long as the box doesn't exceed a Girth + Length value of 84", $15 sounds about right for Parcel Post at 8 pounds. Pack the snot out of it so it doesn't rattle, and tape a cardboard tube over the stinger tip (if any) so dropping it on the end doesn't punch the stinger into the canister.
