Hello guys,

I just bought a Canadian 1989 SE50 (Élite R) like this one :http://www.motorscooterguide.net/Pictur ... Rwhite.jpg. It is completely stock and goes about 38 MPH at 7400RPM. What is the usual max RPM on that engine?

Also, I plan to install a Polini BBK and a Leo Vince exhaust. What would then be the max RPM? And do you guys use the original suggested spark plug (BR6HSA) or something else?

Thanks,

Philippe

Salut Philippe:

J'avais le meme truc a 65cc que tu contemples - Flash I. Avec le LeoVince et un carburateure 24mm, le maximum etait autour de 9,000.

Max RPM is most dependent on the carburetor size and exhaust pipe. You wouldn't believe what happens to the RPM if you install a bigger carb, increase the jet size by 50% and remove the air filter. You could fly through 12,000 RPM in the blink of an eye. And blow the whole thing up toute de suite, too! That's the nature of 2-strokes. They like to go screaming fast, and you manage it with carb & exhaust pipe design. Don't forget that when you go for high RPMs, you need to add more oil to the mix, possibly as much as 20:1, otherwise you'll melt your piston.
